Oilfield Manufacturing
The Oilfield Manufacturing module is ideally suited to MTO (Make to Order) and ETO (Engineer to Order) manufacturers. The Oilfield Manufacturing Module integrates to Discovery’s other Oilfield operational modules (see Products) and to Discovery’s accounting and financial system modules. All Discovery modules support multi-company, multi-branch and multi-currency operations.
The Oilfield Manufacturing module supports single site or multiple site manufacturing plants and mix mode operations where the majority of manufacturing jobs are MTO or ETO with some made to inventory jobs. Manufacturing jobs are supported by Discovery’s configuration tool where manufactured finished goods are basically the same but can offer several unique options.
Transactions
Discovery’s Oilfield Manufacturing module automates the job entry process and automates recording shop floor activities. Estimate to actual reporting is available at any time for an active job and is real-time using the last labor entry or material entry that was recorded to the job. MTO and ETO job entry can begin by quoting a job to a customer or by entering the job into order entry by using a finished goods part number or the configuration tool. The tools and functions available to your staff when entering a job include:
- Access the Bill of Materials (BoM) template for the finished good item
- Modify the BoM template on the fly to fit the customer’s unique needs
- Build the BoM template by answering questions from the configuration
- Look up raw material inventory status for the BoM template
- Issue Purchase Orders for known non-inventory buyout items or for raw materials that are not stocked
- Look up the customers past jobs
- Copy a customer past job
- View customer specific pricing
- View customer credit and outstanding AR
- View other customer locations (ship to locations or bill to locations)
- Record well name, well site directions, AFE number, rig number and LSD
- View Customer Relationship Management (CRM) information: demographics, contacts, current projects, tasks and notes
Discovery’s manufacturing module is unique when recording labor and material costs for manufacturing orders that are for multiple quantities. If, for example, a customer orders 5 finished units, then Discovery’s “group with” function will allow you to record labor and materials for that group of units. This is useful when your shop floor works on the units but do not record time for a specific unit. i.e. 8 hours spent on all five units. Discovery’s time entry system will split the hours entered over all of the units thus saving time to record and enter this data.

Discovery's Manufacturing module has real-time integration with time recording, inventory and purchasing. Raw materials from inventory that are used in the work order are tracked at their weighted average costs. Items or services purchased specifically for the job (called buyouts) use the actual costs from the purchase order which are then reconciled on-line to the Accounts Payable invoice costs. When purchased items are received, the Work in Process GL accounts are immediately updated to an accrued Accounts Payable GL account (using the Purchase Order costs). The vendor invoice is coded to the work order which compares the PO receiving costs to the AP invoice and reports the variance.
Time captured on the shop floor is summarized by employee and, once reviewed, is ready to be sent to the payroll system for processing. Jobs can be scheduled by work centre using the customer request date, scheduling backward or by applying the job to the available resources. MRP is integrated to raw materials that are stocked and, to buyout raw materials that are needed to build the finished good.
Management Reporting
Reports and inquiries include: profitability by job, by finished good and by customer, and transaction exception reporting.
